When to Use

  • Already running systemd and only need basic SNTP (no serving time to others)
  • Default on Ubuntu, Debian, Arch, and most systemd-based distros
  • No need for NTP server functionality — timesyncd is client-only
  • Lower resource footprint than chrony or ntpd
